Thane Baker, United States, sprinter. While a student at the University of Kansas, Walter Thane Baker ran 20.8 to win a silver medal in the men's 200m at the 1952 (Helsinki) Olympic Games. He returned to Olympic competition in 1956 (Melbourne), where he won the silver medal in the 100m (10.5) and the bronze medal in the 200m (20.9).
1968
Rachid El Basir, Morocco, middle-distance runner. In a kicker's race at the 1992 (Barcelona) Olympic Games, El Basir won the silver medal in the men's 1,500m with a time of 3:40.62. Exactly one second separated the first runner (Spain's FermÃn Cacho, 3:40.12) from the fourth runner (Kenya's Joseph Chesire, 3:41.12).
